Project Overview
Trident Controls was engaged to design, manufacture, and commission a series of advanced electrical control panels on behalf of Calor Gas Ireland for their end-user clients. The project formed part of a wider transition from traditional black diesel fuel to LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas)—a cleaner, safer, and more efficient energy solution.
Calor Gas sought a reliable partner to ensure their clients could benefit from LPG without compromising on safety, efficiency, or operational continuity. Trident Controls delivered fully customised control panel solutions that now play a vital role in supporting this transition.
The Challenge
Many industrial and commercial clients across Ireland were heavily reliant on black diesel to power heating systems, boilers, and process equipment. This reliance brought challenges:
- Higher carbon emissions compared to LPG
- Increased fuel costs and inefficiencies
- Greater risk in terms of storage and handling
To support the switch to LPG, Calor Gas required a robust control system that would manage gas flow, optimise fuel usage, and provide enhanced safety monitoring.
Our Solution

This is a picture of a LPG control panel manufactured by Trident Controls for Calor Gas Clients.
Trident Controls worked closely with Calor Gas engineers to design control panels tailored to each client’s specific installation. Our approach included:
- Custom Design & Build – Each panel was engineered to integrate seamlessly with client systems while complying with industry standards.
- Enhanced Safety Features – Built-in monitoring, alarms, and fail-safe functions were added to ensure the highest level of safety during gas supply and operation.
- Efficiency Improvements – Intelligent control logic reduced excess gas usage, ensuring clients maximised their energy efficiency and reduced waste.
- Commissioning & Support – Trident’s engineering team managed the full commissioning process on-site, guaranteeing smooth integration and reliable long-term performance.
The Results
- Improved Safety – Automated safety interlocks and monitoring reduced operational risks for clients.
- Reduced Energy Costs – Clients reported lower consumption thanks to the elimination of excess gas use.
- Lower Carbon Footprint – Transitioning from black diesel to LPG helped clients significantly reduce their environmental impact.
- Client Satisfaction – Calor Gas clients benefited from a turnkey solution that delivered both reliability and peace of mind.
Conclusion
This project demonstrates how Trident Controls supports energy providers and their clients through innovative, reliable, and safety-focused control panel solutions. By enabling Calor Gas customers to switch from diesel to LPG, our panels have played a vital role in improving sustainability, reducing costs, and enhancing operational safety across Ireland.
